DISCOMASS is the first manifestation of musicmass …
musicmass looks at communal singing opportunities in churches, looking at celebrating different types of music and the shared experience of music from different eras. It also looks at celebrating the acoustic space of the church, somewhere designed for singing and coming together.
DISCOMASS is three one hour sessions of classic disco sung in church by the public. A free event bookable or drop in, it is at St John’s Church Cardiff as part of Cardiff Music City 2025.
Tickets while free, can be booked in advance and you will receive a disco hymn book download link to practice before the day.

As part of Cardiff Music City Festival 2025, there will be a really special one-off event at St John’s Church, in the centre of Cardiff, on 11 October 2025, from 1pm – 5pm.
Artists Richard Higlett and Chris Glynn will be putting on their mirrorball helmets and silver suits to present Discomass; three sing-along sets of classic disco, accompanied by the mighty church organ, in a venue that has hosted communal singing for hundreds of years.
This free event is open to everyone – good singers and terrible singers alike – and promises to be as joyous as it is funky. Participants are encouraged to dress up for the occasion.
While walk-ins will be welcome, the organisers strongly advise booking a free ticket in advance to avoid disappointment.
Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
Discomass takes place 1pm – 2pm; 2.30 – 3.30pm and 4.00-5.00pm. 11 October 2025
